Dhaivat Jani is a drummer/percussionist from Ahmedabad, India. Born in 1991, he has had formal training in Indian Classical Tabla for 16 years from Shri Munjal Mehta and is a Tabla Visharad with 3 Gold Medals to his name. He has represented Gujarat State at the National Open Youth Festival twice and has received a scholarship from CCRT – The Government of India. Dhaivat is presently pursuing his four-year degree course at Humber college in Bachelor of Music (Drums/Percussion). 

With a strong base of Indian classical rhythms, Dhaivat picked up drumsticks in 2009. He took his early drumming lessons in Ahmedabad and then, with guidance of a drummer based out of Pune, Vatayan, he started taking lessons from Gino Banks in Mumbai from 2010. Dhaivat has also taken classes on percussion from Ustad Taufiq Qureshi.

Dhaivat has been playing with different artists and bands ever since he started drumming. 

Dhaivat has designed and performed a poetic-instrumental show titled ‘ Sounds of Stories ’ where poetry narrations are given musical meaning by holding the feel of the words at the core. The compositions of ‘Sounds of Stories’ give musical definition to what words try to convey. 

Dhaivat plays with Jazz and Blues band – Time Wise. They did the first ever Ahmedabad Jazz and Blues Festival in 2013 which got overwhelming response. The second edition of the festival was organized in July 2015. With Time Wise, Dhaivat has also performed at prestigious venues like the NCPA and The Quarter in Mumbai whereas The Piano Man Jazz Club and Depot 48 in Delhi to name a few.

Dhaivat has also played with Ahmedabad based experimental Fusion/Folk band Meghdhanush for nine years till 2018. With Meghdhanush, Dhaivat has done a tour to Turkey in 2014. They have also performed on MTV Indies on the show - Never Hide Sounds in collaboration with Rahul Ram from Indian Ocean. Meghdhanush have released a full length album Mijlas, a four track video series Folk Rang and various singles. With Meghdhanush, Dhaivat has worked on three Gujarati feature films, out of which one happens to be DHH, which has gone on to win the prestigious National Award among the many other awards worldwide.

Dhaivat was a visiting faculty at National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad at Film and Video department for Music in Films.

Talking of experimental musician that Dhaivat is, he also plays live music for Yoga sessions. He was part of the first International Yoga Day where he performed live music for a Yoga academy in Ahmedabad. They plan to take it further and make it bigger in times to come.

Dhaivat also plays as a freelance drummer with various artists in genres varying from Bollywood, Fusion to instrumental sets and for Musical plays as well.

Dhaivat is a certified sound audio engineer from SAE, Mumbai and does freelance sound design and music production projects for short films, documentaries and corporate films.

Dhaivat did the music and sound design for the documentary film 'Goonga Pehelwan' which went on to win a National Award.

Dhaivat is a full-time musician/producer. His drumming reflects his early training in Indian Classical Music and his listening to the various drummers and musicians from across the globe.
