The CreativeHub 1352 is looking for a Director of Environmental Initiatives to join our Board of Directors and manage the environmental initiatives of the organization.

Who We Are 

 

CreativeHub 1352 (the Hub) is a non-profit organization, committed to working with the community in the adaptive reuse and programming of the Small Arms Inspection Building (SAIB) in the Lakeview area of Mississauga. To this end the Hub works with the community and various partners in championing the development of collaborative creative programming across the arts, heritage, environment and technology. 

 

The Hub believes that engaging the community in preserving and enhancing the environment and improving food security leads to the development of a healthier more cohesive and prosperous community.

 

CreativeHub 1352 works closely with the City of Mississauga (the owner of the SAIB) as a community programming partner. The Hub has plans for an exciting mix of programs, events and activities for the building in 2021/22. In anticipation of a busy year ahead, we are strengthening our volunteer board of directors. Role of the Director of Environmental Initiatives: 

 

The CreativeHub 1352 Director of Environmental Initiatives is a voting member of the Board of Directors and appointed in a manner consistent with the bylaws of the organization. The Director of Environmental Initiatives works collaboratively with the Chair, the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, volunteers and staff to support the Board in achieving its governance and environmental responsibilities. 

 

The Hub believes that engaging the community in preserving and enhancing the environment and improving food security leads to the development of a healthier more cohesive and prosperous community. 

 

The Hub’s Director of Environmental Initiatives is expected to participate as an active team and voting member of the Board of Directors and will be appointed in a manner consistent with Board policies and by-laws.  

 

The Director will work with the Board in establishing a sub-committee to assist the Board in realizing success in the implementation of environmental and food security initiatives. 

Working with the sub-committee, the Director will develop environmental policies, guidelines and procedures and complete various administrative, reporting, fundraising and financial duties. 

 

The Director will guide the implementation of a significant and active portfolio with a number of well established programs and potential new initiatives.  

 

The Director will work closely and collaboratively in developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with various conservation and environmental organizations, stakeholders and volunteers on initiatives that promote greater environmental sustainability and food security.

 

The Director will also work in collaboration with the City of Mississauga, owner of the Small Arms Inspection Building and immediate site.  

 

The Director will play a significant role in advancing public engagement, participation and education to ensure the stewardship, preservation, and enhancement of the natural environment, and evolving greater food security. 

 

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Director will work on behalf of the Board with the Executive Director and Board committees to:

 

  • oversee the development of an Environmental Initiatives subcommittee to assist the Board in realizing success in the development of environmental initiatives; 

  • develop environmental policies, guidelines and procedures; 

  • strengthen relationships and partnerships to build collaborative initiatives with environmental and conservation organizations like the Toronto Region Conservation Authority, the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, Blooming Boulevards, the David Suzuki Foundation, Ecosource, Eagle Spirits of the Great Waters and other local community groups; 

  • advance public engagement, participation and education to ensure the stewardship, preservation, and enhancement of the natural urban environment and habitats; 

  • conduct semi-annual site clean-ups, like spring and fall clean-ups of the beds and site;

  • collaborate with Ecosource in their management of the Small Arms Community Gardens site;

  • provide support to existing groups and projects including the Lakeview Farmers’ Market, Garden Group, pollinating plant plots, monarch butterfly plot and other initiatives as they arise;

  • provide public education and learning opportunities to increase support and understanding of the importance of preserving and enhancing the environment and food security;  

  • develop new initiatives to advance food security and the Community Kitchen project;

  • undertake collaborative community environmental projects such as demonstrations, workshops, environmental walks, and initiatives; 

  • develop fundraising initiatives, complete grants, cultivate sponsorships and donations;

  • complete various administrative duties including completing reports, partnership agreements, project budget summaries and annual budget submissions as required; 

  • meet with City of Mississauga representative and stakeholder groups as required. 

 

Skills and Qualifications 

  • Understanding of non-profits and commitment to the Hub’s mission and strategic directions;

  • Experience in environmental sciences, programming, food security, and/or urban agriculture;

  • Experience with community engagement, collaborative practices and partnering;

  • Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, volunteers and Board team;

  • Organizational and project planning skills with sound budget and report writing skills.
