CreativeHub 1352 is excited to present a series of FREE online programs focused on creative expression, social connection, and overall wellness for adults aged 55+

PROGRAM 1: Mindful Movement for Older and Mature Adults

 

Join instructor Colleen Snell from the Frog in Hand dance company in this exciting 8-week movement series for older and mature adults. This series will develop mobility, co-ordination, and strength, while adapting exercises to suit the movement needs of each individual. This class welcomes folks with reduced mobility with seated exercises and can incorporate a variety of assistive devices. A variety of props and music will be used to ensure this workshop is fun and engaging for all. Each class will conclude with a feedback and group conversation session about movement, the class curriculum and the arts in general.

Instructor Bio:

 

"Colleen Snell is an educator, choreographer, collaborator, outside eye, fight director and performer. She is Artistic Director of Frog in Hand, a site-specific dance-theatre company she co-founded in 2012. Colleen devises and performs collaborative work with musicians, poets, actors, fight directors, visual artists and martial artists. As a performer, Colleen has created original roles with Dancemakers, TOES for Dance, Transcendance Project and APDP (Alysa Pires). She is an advanced actor-combatant with Fight Directors Canada. Colleen trained in Montreal (EDCM) and England, completing a Masters Degree at London Contemporary Dance School. An avid bilingual arts educator, Colleen is committed to developing and sharing cultural capital with diverse learners. She teaches acting for adults as well as movement/dance to beginners and professionals of all ages."

 

 

PROGRAM 2: Ceramic Arts for Older and Mature Adults

 

Join local Mississauga artist Gillian Sych for an interactive hands-on ceramics course for older and mature adults. Participants will work through the process of creation, learning how to turn a block of clay into artistic and functional pieces. Folks will have the opportunity to experiment with food-safe ceramic paints, while learning new skills in a welcoming environment. All pieces will be fired and glazed at the end of each course. No prior experience necessary, clay kits included.

Instructor Bio:

 

"Gillian Sych is a graphic designer and a ceramic artist living and working in Mississauga. Gillian’s interest in ceramics began 25 years ago when she took classes at George Brown College in Toronto. Gillian now works from her home studio creating beautiful functional handmade pottery. She frequently participates in regional art fairs throughout Southern Ontario. Gillian has been teaching in Mississauga for the last 7 years and she enjoys seeing the progress of her students – from the first day handling clay to the day they take home their special finished pieces. She gets great joy in seeing students take a block of clay and making something artistic yet functional."

 

 

PROGRAM 3: Cultural Heritage Learning Series for Older and Mature Adults

 

Join us for this discussion-based series, where we will share Memory Kits and heritage knowledge about the stories of the Small Arms Inspection Building during WWII. Each Memory Kit includes historical artifacts and information relating to the building’s history. We will use the Memory Kits as a springboard for the discovery and unlocking of stories and histories that connect us all to a shared sense of community. The Memory Kit themes for each session include the following topics: On the Factory Floor, Women in the Workforce, Victory Bond and You, Daily Life, and Down Time.

Fridays from 11:00am - 12:00pm

  • February 26: On the Factory Floor

  • March 5: Women in the Workforce

  • March 12: Victory Bonds and You

  • March 19: Daily Life

  • March 26: Down Time

 

Facilitators: A facilitator will lead each session to guide the conversations and encourage individuals to share past stories and information about the life and times growing up in the Lakeview community and connections to the Small Arms Ltd. factory.
