About the Role

The Environmental Program Coordinator will support the planning, implementation, and administration of CreativeHub 1352’s environmental initiatives and community-based programming. Working closely with the Executive Director, Director of Environmental Initiatives, and event committees, the coordinator will play a key role in engaging the community and advancing CreativeHub 1352’s environmental and sustainability goals.
The position emphasizes engaging the community, developing impactful programs, and fostering partnerships that support sustainability and environmental awareness. This role provides meaningful work experience and opportunities to develop professional skills in program coordination, community engagement, and environmental education.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development & Delivery:

    • Support implementation of programs and events such as Community Clean-Up Days, Pollinator Plantings, Environmental Workshops, Community Gardens, and the Monarch Butterfly Pollinator Project.

    • Assist in creating and refining environmental programming to increase community engagement and environmental impact.

  • Community Engagement:

    • Develop outreach strategies to engage diverse audiences, including racialized youth, Indigenous communities, and underrepresented groups.

    • Facilitate educational opportunities for the community, emphasizing environmental conservation, food security, and sustainable practices.

  • Stakeholder & Partner Collaboration:

    • Strengthen partnerships with organizations such as Ecosource, Blooming Boulevards, David Suzuki Foundation, and Eagle Spirits of the Great Waters.

    • Work with conservation authorities (Toronto Region and Credit Valley) on collaborative community environmental projects, such as workshops, site clean-ups, and habitat restoration.

    • Maintain close collaboration with the City of Mississauga on environmental programming within the SAIB.

  • Event Logistics & Administration:

    • Manage event timelines, budgets, and logistical needs, ensuring all deliverables are met.

    • Track and analyze program data to evaluate impact and provide feedback for improvement.

  • Skills Development:

    • Facilitate learning sessions with volunteers and participants to foster skills in conservation, environmental stewardship, and sustainable practices.

  • Promotions & Marketing:

    • Create content with the marketing team for newsletters, social media, and other platforms to promote environmental programming.

    • Highlight program outcomes and success stories to increase visibility and community support.

Requirements

  • Interest or experience in environmental science, community programming, or sustainability practices.

  • High school diploma or post-secondary education in environmental studies, program coordination, business, or a related field preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; social media experience is an asset.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar tools; willingness to learn additional software.

  • A passion for environmental education, sustainability, and community development.


Eligibility Criteria


This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be aged between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment.

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee with the legal right to work in Canada.

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).

Hours

35 hrs/week for 8 weeks

Salary

$19/hour

Based in the historic Small Arms Inspection Building (SAIB), owned by the City of Mississauga, we advocate for the space’s use as a vibrant cultural and community hub. Through collaboration with local partners, we deliver year-round multidisciplinary programming, including arts, heritage, and environmental initiatives, to benefit the diverse communities of Mississauga.
