About the Role
The Director of Finance is a voting member of the Board of Directors and appointed in a manner consistent with the bylaws of the organization. The role of Treasurer is an Officer position, and a member of the Executive Committee. The Director of Finance and Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial governance of the organization. As a key member of the Board of Directors, the Director provides strategic financial leadership, ensures the long-term financial health and sustainability of the organization, and upholds all legal and fiduciary duties as required by the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA) and other relevant regulations.
All Directors serve 2 year terms, with the possibility of renewal, up to six years total on the Board of CreativeHub 1352.
Responsibilities
1. Financial Oversight and Governance
Financial Planning and Strategy: Advise the Board on the organization's financial strategy, funding model, and capacity-building for sustainable growth.
Budgeting: Work with the Executive Director and/or staff to prepare the annual budget and present it to the Board for review and approval.
Financial Reporting: Ensure the Board receives timely, accurate, and easy-to-understand financial statements and reports (e.g., monthly/quarterly statements, cash flow projections, budget variance reports).
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks. Ensure that appropriate financial controls, policies, and procedures are in place to protect the organization's assets and reputation.
Audit and Compliance: Oversee the annual audit process, work with the external auditor, and present the audit report to the Board. Ensure compliance with all government tax filings (e.g., CRA filings) and other regulatory requirements.
Legal and Fiduciary Duties: Uphold the legal responsibility to act honestly, in good faith, and in the best interests of the non-profit. This includes a duty of care to act as a reasonably careful person would in a similar situation.
2. Board and Committee Leadership
Chair of the Finance Committee: Serve as the Chair of the Board's Finance Committee, leading discussions and recommendations on all financial matters.
Meeting Participation: Actively participate in all Board and Finance Committee meetings, and be prepared to discuss financial reports and agenda items.
Advisory Role: Act as a resource to the Board and the Executive Director on financial matters, helping other directors understand financial reports and key metrics.
3. Operational Support and Administration
Banking and Funds Management: Serve as a signing officer for the organization's bank accounts, along with at least one other authorized officer.
Record-Keeping: Ensure that the organization maintains accurate and up-to-date financial books and records.
Donations and Grants: Verify that donations are handled appropriately and that grants and contracts are accounted for in accordance with funder requirements.
Requirements
Experience: Proven experience in financial management, accounting, or a related field. Professional accounting designation (CPA) is a significant asset but not required.
Financial Acumen: A solid understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and financial reporting, particularly within a non-profit context.
Commitment: A strong commitment to the mission and strategic direction of CreativeHub 1352.
Governance: An understanding of non-profit board governance and the legal duties of a director in Ontario.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills to explain complex financial information to a diverse group of board directors.
Attributes: High level of integrity, attention to detail, and a collaborative and strategic mindset.

CreativeHub 1352 is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing creative people together to strengthen arts, culture, and community in Mississauga. Through collaborations with local partners, we offer a diverse range of year-round programs in the arts, heritage, and environmental stewardship and education, engaging people from across the city and beyond.
Our journey began with the Lakeview Legacy Community Foundation, later known as the Small Arms Society, which led the successful effort in 2008 to save the historic Small Arms Inspection Building (SAIB) from demolition. Since 2018, CreativeHub 1352 has worked with the City of Mississauga to transform this landmark into a vibrant community hub. As the building’s lead tenant and key partner, we continue to expand our programming days each year, bringing our creative vision to life in this unique and historic space.
