About the event

Workshop Description: “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” (Anton Chekhov).  From Vermeer to Monet to Gerhart Richter, many great artists have been fascinated by the depiction of light in all its ever-changing variations. Many would argue that the medium of painting has a unique potential to express the intangibility of light, in a tangible, malleable and evocative form. Taking inspiration from various art historical references, we will consider the nuances of light and learn various techniques and approaches through the medium of acrylic to develop one's ‘eye’ – the ability to translate subtle aspects of the visible into paint. Appropriate for those with some painting experience, students will hone their technical skills and push their perceptual awareness through several short painting studies using glass objects to refract light.

Age Range: Youth 14+, Adults

In addition to my collaborative practice as "Soft Turns”, my drawing and painting practice engages with the ways that looking is a bodily perception, grounded in sensation
