About the event

As a group we will explore three simple hand building techniques, pinching, slab-building, and coiling by making three simple vessels. This will create a sense of instinct and comfort with the clay and no matter what, everyone will end up with one successful shape. The second half of the first class will be focused on a larger self-lead piece, the participants will have a choice based on what they want to make and what technique they feel the most interested in exploring. Building templates/ guidance will be provided for:


-homewares: a vase, a tray, a catchall, mug, candle holder,

-animal charms, simple ornaments


In the second class the group will examine the bisque pieces and learn the basics of firing. Learn about the differences between underglaze and glaze, how to apply safely. The three practice vessels made in session one will serve as training ground. Participants will try three different…
