About the event
Workshop Description: Gain a solid foundation in embroidery by learning the basics including setting up your work, learning about various stitches and understanding how to apply texture though beads and sequins as well as developing good work practices. By the end of the course each student will have created a finished 8-10" stitch sampler with 6-8 different stitches which can be displayed or filed away as a reference for later. Unleash your inner textile artist and enter the exciting world of embroidery!
Participants take the embroidery hoop with them at the end of the workshop.
Age Range: Youth 14+, Adults
Instructor Bio: Rosa Wharton is a Caribbean mixed-media textile artist and environmental scientist. Based on the vision that there is unity in diversity, her practice fuses traditional handwork with contemporary digital technologies, to create statement, thought provoking pieces. Over the last 2 years Rosa has become an educator and avid facilitator to fashion designers, sculptors, illustrators and textile enthusiasts in local and private studios within Toronto to help make their visions a marvelous reality.
