About the event
Workshop Description: Plants’ uniqueness, ubiquitousness, and representational power make them fascinating artistic subjects. Looking closely at plants is a particularly rewarding way to explore line, form and colour to develop artistic expression and technique. This drawing workshop is designed to nurture careful observation, experimentation, and technical growth as students are encouraged to intimately engage with surrounding plant life while exploring various drawing techniques.
Age Range: Youth 14+, Adults, Children 11+ accompied by an adult
Participants will be notified the day prior if the workshop will run based on weather conditions. If the weather forecast is predicting moderate rain the workshop will be rescheduled to July 28th @ 9:00a-11:30a outside at the Small Arms Inspection Building.
Instructor Bio: Sarah Gorlitz is an artist and teacher with experience leading workshops for students from a variety of backgrounds (from MFA students to seniors taking their first art class (Avenue Road School for the Arts), 4-10 year olds in my daughters’ etobicoke school to YYZLAB participants (new Canadians and emerging artists from Toronto suburbs). In addition to her collaborative practice as "Soft Turns”, her drawing and painting practice engages with the ways that looking is a bodily perception, grounded in sensation
